Who We Are

About us

Here at Church on Atlantic we are all about connections. We believe Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. And through Jesus we are #connectingforlife with others.

What we believe

COA is a family of believers striving to call people to live in Jesus, coach people to live like Jesus and challenge people to live for Jesus.  Considering the diversity in religious and denominational backgrounds represented in our community, we stress the importance of a few fundamental Biblical teachings; we call them essential doctrines.  With respect to other teachings not considered essential we encourage freedom and love for one another.  In other words; we are united in essential teachings while free to believe the non-essential ones in the spirit of Christian love.

The Bible

We believe The Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself to all people. It has God for its author, salvation for its end and truth, without error, for it substance.

God

We believe there is only one living and true God. He is the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver and Ruler of the Universe. He reveals Himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence or being.

Trinity

We believe God the Father rules over His universe, His creatures and History in accordance to His will and to accomplish His eternal purposes. He is all powerful, all knowing, all loving and all wise. We believe Christ is God the Son. He is eternal and the redeemer of men from sin. As Jesus Christ he was fully man and fully God, He was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, experienced all human demands and needs without sinning, died to satisfy God’s just requirements for the redemption from sin, was raised from the dead on the third day, appeared to many in a glorified body and ascended to heaven where He is our Mediator. We believe the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, fully divine. He exalts Christ, convicts men of sin, righteousness and judgment, calls people to the Savior, affects regeneration (new birth), baptizes believers into the Body of Christ (the universal Church), cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, gives spiritual gifts for service and seals the believer unto the day of final redemption.

Man

We believe Man is the special creation of God, made male and female, both in His own image. By his free will, man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. All men and women are now sinners by nature and by choice and in need of forgiveness of sin and salvation from the penalty of sin (eternal separation from God).

Sin

We believe Sin is the failure to conform to the moral law of God in nature, behavior or attitude. It disrupts everything. Because of sin we no longer reflect the perfection God created us to reflect. Because of sin we can’t live the lives we were originally designed to live. Because of sin we don’t live in the world we were originally designed to live in. Because of sin we are broken people living a broken relationship with God in a broken world.

Salvation

We believe Salvation is God’s expression of grace for the sinner and is based on what Jesus Christ did on our behalf when he was crucified, buried and risen. It’s offered freely to all who recognize and confess their sin and accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

The Church

We believe that the Church is the community of all true believers. It is not a location where Christians gather but is the gathering of Christians in any place and time. As such, we commit to God and to one another in obedience and love. Together we obey the Lord in observing the Lord’s Supper and the Christian’s Baptism by immersion.

Christ's Return

We believe that Christ will return in power and glory to bring all creation back to its original state (including men and women).
